What did Jesus mean when he said, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven."? He was speaking about those who had done many works in His name. His point was that regardless of their works, HE didn't know them (Matthew 7:21-23). They mistakenly thought doing things for Him was sufficient without nurturing a relationship with Him.

Remember the story of Mary and Martha? Martha was busy taking care of the tasks to be done while Mary sat listening to the Lord. When Martha complained, Jesus told her that she worried about many things, but "Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:42)

Jesus clearly wants to have a relationship with us. Like any relationship, it requires attention, nurturing, time. It requires knowing that person in a deep, intimate way. He has told us many ways in which we can do this ----- prayer, meditation, searching the scriptures, singing, and just talking to Him. When you focus on Him, He will draw close to you. Then, go out and do your good works. First things, first. Jesus is "The Way".
